Soapwort Gentian, Harvestbells - Gentiana saponaria

Family: Gentianaceae - Gentian family Genus Common Name: Gentian Native Status: Native
Gentiana saponaria - Soapwort Gentian, Harvestbells. Fannin County GA Nov 10 2008 just outside Cohutta Wilderness. G saponaria has paler flowers than G. clausa, and these had pretty deep blue flowers, but USDA database doesn't show G. clausa this far south, and the leaves of G. clausa seem to be generally wider than these. This is also similar to G. linearis, but USDA database also does not show this in Georgia. Both G. clausa and G. linearis are close enough that they are possibles.
