Viola praemorsa - Upland Yellow Violet, Canary Violet, Astoria Violet, Prairie Violet, Yellow montane violet, Wavyleaf Violet. | THIS IDENTIFICATION WAS INCORRECT; YOU WILL BE REDIRECTED TO THE CORRECTED PAGE IN A FEW SECONDS NOTE: Nov 22, 2013 - R. John Little, Ph.D., noted expert on Violaceae, has identified this as Viola purpurea subsp. venosa rather than Viola praemorsa. I am working on updating this page to reflect that change in identification. -- gcw There has been some shuffling of the classification of some varieties of Viola praemorsa, with some publications indicating subspecies status for what other authorities consider a variety. Var. linguifolia was at one time classified as a separate species, Viola linguifolia. This is a beautiful, small violet that adds a sprinkling of yellow in the mid to upper elevations of some of our western states.
