| Site: Hamilton County, TN Date: 2010-September-05 | Photographer: Gerald C. Williamson Nikon D60 Tamron SP 90MM f/2.8 AF Macro | The inflorescence is a tight head (I think this is technically a spike) usually around 1/2 inch across encircled by a row of tiny flowers. The flowers start blooming at the bottom of the head, and progressively bloom up the head as the season progresses. | |
| Site: Reflection Riding, Hamilton County, TN Date: 2010-September-05 | Photographer: Gerald C Williamson Nikon D60 | The flowers are white to lavender, with two lips. The outer lip is lobed to appear as three petals. In this flower, as in many I observed, some of the corollas were nearly pure white, while others were lavender. | | Click on the photo for a larger image
