Robin's Plantain - Erigeron pulchellus

Erigeron pulchellus - Robin's Plantain. Robin's Plantain is one of the shorter of the eastern fleabanes, growing from 8 to 24 inches tall, but to me it is one of the prettier of the eastern Erigeron species. It is found in 34 of the easternmost states in the United States, and in much of the eastern half of Canada.

The flower of Robins Plantain is compound, having both ray and disk flowers. It has 50 - 100, usually around 80, ray flowers which are white to pale violet, up to about 3/4" long. They surround the yellow disk flowers.

This showy fleabane grows to about 2 feet tall with a blossom that is usually more showy than other eastern fleabanes. The inflorescence is a cluster of 1 to 4 or more compound blossoms at the top of a very hairy stem.

There are a few small, alternate stem leaves, but the main leaves consist of a basal rosette of oblong, very hairy leaves. These basal leaves may have a few rounded teeth.
