Coreopsis major - Greater Tickseed, Whorled Leaf Coreopsis, Forest Tickseed. Coreopsis major grows from 2 to 4 feet tall on roadsides and open forests. The blossom has both yellow ray and disk flowers and can be up to 2.5 inches wide.

The flowers usually have 8 ray flowers and 30 or more disk flowers. The ends of the ray flowers on most Coreopsis species are toothed; that feature is missing in Coreopsis major.

The leaves only appear to be whorled; they are actually opposing, with each leaf having three narrow, lanceolate lobes. This gives the appearance of 6 whorled leaves.
