Family: Asteraceae - Aster family Genus Common Name: Mistflower Native Status: NativeDicot Perennial Herb
Conoclinium coelestinum - Blue Mistflower, Wild Ageratum, Mistflower. Branching Aster 1' to 3' tall with opposite, almost triangle-shaped toothed leaves. Blue disk flowers but no ray flowers.

Synonym Eupatorium coelestinum.

Each flowerhead of Blue Mistflower consist of many 5-petaled disk flowers whose long stamen cause the fuzzy appearance of this flower. There are no ray flowers on this member of the aster family.

Somewhat triangular-shaped leaf of Blue Mistflower is opposite, toothed. As with most plants with toothed leaves, the depth of the "teeth" can be quite variable. Leaves are on short petioles.

Blue Mistflower, Conoclinium coelestinum, is typically 1' to 3' high, and may have multiple branches, each terminating at an inflorescence.

The Blue Mistflower blossoms seem to be a deeper blue this year. 2009 was a "normal" rainfall year, while 2010 had a wet spring but a VERY dry summer. Possibly that was a factor in the color.

Blue Mistflower is a late summer/early fall flower. By late October in North Georgia the flowers are giving way to seeds.
