The photo I have been using as the main image for Low Hop Clover – Trifolium campestre – was actually a photograph of Black Medick – Medicago lupulina. While there are differences in the shape of the individual blossoms and of the overall plant, a key identifier is the small tooth at the end of the terminal leaflet on Black Medick.

Low-Hop, a non-native species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (01/04/2011.) Scientific name is Trifolium campestre. It’s also known by the common names Field Clover, Large Hop Clover, and Hop Trefoil. Photo below was taken at Reed Branch Wet Meadow Preserve, Towns County, GA on April 30, 2010.

Crimson Clover, a non-native species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (10/03/2010.) Scientific name is Trifolium incarnatum. It’s also known by the common name Italian Clover. Photo below was taken on the east side of Pigeon Mountain in Walker County, Georgia on April 18, 2010.

In the May 5 post, I mentioned that the wild hydrangea blossoms were forming their buds. Since I only had photos of prior year’s blossoms – which I think in themselves are quite beautiful – I wanted to make sure I got a chance to photograph them while in bloom. I managed to squeeze out some time (thanks for giving up work on the ceiling, Cindy!) on Saturday, June 6, and was rewarded with finding the hydrangea at peak of their blossom.
